3R Sustainability (a wholly-owned subsidiary of SRI Quality System Registrar) often seeks professionals for positions at its Pittsburgh office (Strip District) to be on the front line of the global charge toward sustainability. See the currently available positions below.

3R Sustainability Internship Summer 2019 (Pittsburgh, PA)

3R Sustainability, a CSR (corporate responsibility and high-performance building) consulting company located in Pittsburgh’s Strip District, is looking for Interns to work on a sustainability project from May 13th, 2019 to August 2nd, 2019.

The ideal candidate will be available to work 40 hours per week for these 12 weeks at 3R’s LEED Gold-certified office in the Strip District in Pittsburgh.  3R will provide all required training and resources, as well as two paid days off during this time.  This work will be team-focused, on actual projects, hands-on, and directly interactive with clients.

3R believes that sustainability and corporate responsibility are good for business, good for the environment, good for society, and good for the economy.  The built environment is a good example of this – by designing and operating high-performance workplaces, companies can improve the health and productivity of their employees, while also reducing energy and water use, and reducing waste.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be an upper-class undergraduate or graduate student interested in a career in sustainability, or an environmental/engineering student with a good understanding of business
  • Be very detail oriented to contribute to and support the project, 3R team, project management, and administration
  • Work with the 3R team and project team leaders to evaluate project data against broad CSR/ESG benchmarks, scorecards, and best practices
  • Know how to assimilate and analyze operational and environmental data for compliance, indicators, and trends
  • Be proficient with Google and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Have strong problem-solving, time management, organization, and communication skills
  • Demonstrate initiative and have a positive, helpful, team-focused attitude
  • Be a quick learner and adaptive; eager to tackle new situations
  • Have a passion for sustainability and the underlying engineering, business, and policy impacts, roles, criteria, and technology
  • Willingness to jump in on any task that helps the team meet its objectives

The internship is paid at a starting rate of $20 per hour plus a bonus for completion of the full 12 weeks.  More details will be provided to interns that apply and meet with requirements above.

Project Time frame:

  • Offers will be made and acceptance decisions must be made by March 31st, 2019
  • Technical Training (40 hours) will be held during the week of May 13 to 17 at 3R training facilities in Washington, DC (travel, hotels expenses (individual rooms), meals, and all expenses included). Interns are paid for training time, and all interns are required to attend
  • Project work (40 hours per week, Monday to Friday) begins May 20 at 3R office at 2401 Smallman Street in the Strip District
  • Interns will get 2 days paid vacation during the 12 weeks
  • Project work will complete the last week of July, with performance reviews and team party on August 1 and 2
  • All interns that complete the full 12 weeks from May 13 to August 2 will receive a 10% bonus for completing the full program

This internship program provides the framework for a student to apply what has been learned in prior experience and the classroom to make a value-added impact on 3R and its clients.  This hands-on opportunity will provide interns with real work experience, demonstrable accomplishments, and greater confidence in his or her career opportunities, while also advancing the company’s greater goal of social, economic, and environmental sustainability.

3R Sustainability Manager (Pittsburgh, PA)

3R Sustainability, a CSR (corporate responsibility and high-performance building) consulting company located in Pittsburgh’s Strip District, is looking for a Sustainability Manager to join its practice.

As a Sustainability Manager, you will provide expertise and serve as the primary technical subject matter expert for the evaluation of projects pursuing LEED or other high-performance building certification. This includes reviews of documentation, such as templates, calculations, drawings and specifications, provided as part of national and international LEED certification applications. You will gain firsthand experience with green building strategies and some of the top project designs in the industry, both through documentation review as well as advising project teams on ways to incorporate sustainability into their buildings.

You will also have the opportunity to work with companies to develop their sustainability/CSR strategy and plan, from engaging stakeholders and identifying material environmental, social and governance impacts, to defining/evaluating programs and metrics to achieve their strategy.  You will analyze consumption/usage patterns of energy, water, waste, and identify opportunities to reduce each; perform lifecycle assessments to minimize environmental impacts; create policies and practices to improve employee recruiting and retention; and develop business case and metrics supporting a company’s sustainability plan. Using frameworks such as UN Sustainable Development Goals and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) to guide plan development, you will ensure sustainability is built into a company’s management system and prepare CSR report to demonstrate a company’s commitment to sustainability.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be an Architect, Engineer, or related design professional with minimum of five to seven years related experience
  • Hold a LEED AP with specialty (or the ability to obtain within six months)
  • Have significant LEED project experience
  • Possess detailed technical understanding on multiple of the following subjects: HVAC systems, plumbing systems, electrical systems, construction methods, materials specification, landscape design and management, master planning, land use, zoning, urban development, life-cycle assessment, sustainability reporting
  • Have experience in Building Commissioning, Energy Audits, or Energy Benchmarking
  • Possess strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate initiative and a positive, can-do attitude

Preference given to candidates holding the credential LEED AP O+M, WELL, and/or LEED Certification Reviewer certificate.

3R Sustainability Operations Admin/Specialist (Pittsburgh, PA)

  • Work with leadership teams of both 3R and SRI to evaluate, improve, and support internal CSR and business initiatives
  • Be a strong writer for correspondence with customers and suppliers, and preparing and distributing company communications, including articles, blog posts, YouTube videos, etc.
  • Ability to assimilate and organize market data and trends from various sources
  • Know how to use social media tools to support awareness of 3R and SRI
  • Have strong problem-solving, time management and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate initiative, teamwork, and have a positive, helpful attitude
