Ring Container Technologies Advances Sustainability Reporting and GHG Strategy with 3R Partnership
3R Sustainability partnered with Ring Container Technologies for the fifth consecutive year to help them achieve their sustainability goals, delivering value by positioning Ring to align with customer and stakeholder expectations. Through this engagement, 3R developed and designed Ring’s annual sustainability report, calculated its greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory (scopes 1-3), and supported Ring with the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) validation process. 3R’s assurance division, Sustainability Assurance Services, enhanced the credibility of Ring’s disclosures through third-party report assurance using the AA1000 Assurance Standard.
Client Needs
Ring Container Technologies sought to continue its multi-year partnership with 3R, engaging the 3R team to manage the complexity of sustainability reporting while aligning with leading frameworks (e.g., GRI and SASB) and stakeholder expectations. Ring sought 3R’s support to efficiently collect data, produce a high-quality annual report, and enhance the accuracy and credibility of its GHG emissions inventory. Additionally, they pursued SBTi-aligned GHG reduction target validation.
Approach and Solution
3R provided end-to-end support across reporting, emissions accounting, and target-setting:
- Sustainability Report Development: Facilitated data collection, drafting, editing, and design of Ring’s annual sustainability report, ensuring alignment with GRI and SASB standards and clear communication of their sustainability performance.
- GHG Inventory Calculation: Calculated Ring’s scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG inventory, improving emissions visibility and enabling Ring to meet disclosure expectations. Improved year-on-year data quality by prioritizing product-level data over spend-based estimates, enhancing the accuracy and robustness of the inventory, and strengthening the underlying methodology for emissions accounting
- SBTi Advisory Support: Ensured Ring’s GHG inventory was fully compliant with SBTi requirements, drafted the SBTi submission portal, and led Ring through the validation process by managing all queries and follow-ups from the SBTi validator.
- Third-Party Assurance: Through 3R’s Sustainability Assurance Services division, conducted independent verification of the sustainability report in accordance with AA1000 standards, strengthening credibility
Impact
Through this partnership, Ring Container Technologies published its fifth annual sustainability report, demonstrating the quality, transparency, and credibility of its sustainability program and disclosures. The GRI- and SASB-aligned report provides a clear, structured communication tool for stakeholders, while third-party assurance reinforces confidence in reported data. The calculation of their scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG inventory, supported by improved year-on-year data quality and a transition toward product-level data over spend-based estimates, enhanced the accuracy and credibility of Ring’s emissions data.
This positioned Ring to respond to customer data requests, engage suppliers on their reduction journey, and make informed decisions for its own decarbonization journey. Lastly, 3R’s SBTi advisory support ensured Ring’s GHG inventory was fully compliant with SBTi requirements. This resulted in Ring’s targets being successfully validated and approved by the SBTi within three weeks from the start of the validation process, ensuring alignment with climate science and reinforcing stakeholder expectations.
